More than 7 out of every 10 Americans describe themselves as Christians. But the general sense among evangelicals is that many people who say they are Christians don’t really act on that claim.

The Barna Group set out to find how many Americans’ beliefs and behaviors fall in line with their declared identity. By analyzing nearly 43,000 people, they found that, whatever might be made of how many people claim to be a Christian, the activities and beliefs often associated with Christianity are on a rapid,
startling decline.
